Visiting Beijing Film Academy: Exploring Virtual Production Technology and Film Art Development

12 Nov 2024

On November 12, 2024, at the invitation of Beijing Film Academy, our laboratory, along with faculty members from the Computational Media and Arts Thrust at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), paid a visit to Beijing Film Academy.

During the visit, we focused on touring the academy's Virtual Production Laboratory, gaining an in-depth understanding of its cutting-edge equipment and technological achievements in the field of virtual production. The laboratory is equipped with high-performance virtual studios, real-time motion capture systems, and other advanced technical facilities, showcasing the immense potential of virtual production in film creation. Technical experts from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key technical challenges, industry development trends, and future collaboration directions in virtual production.

Additionally, coinciding with the 23rd International Student Film and Video Festival (ISFVF) hosted by Beijing Film Academy, we were also invited to attend the film screenings. As one of the largest student film festivals in the world, ISFVF brought together 2,813 outstanding student works from over 90 countries and regions. These works not only demonstrated young filmmakers' unique perspectives on society, culture, and technology but also reflected diverse artistic expressions and innovative spirit. The laboratory team found great inspiration during the screenings, which provided new ideas for future research at the intersection of virtual production technology and film art.

This visit not only strengthened the collaborative consensus between our school and BFA in the field of virtual production, but also injected new vitality into the integrated development of film technology and art. In the future, both parties will continue to work together to explore innovative applications of virtual production technology, contributing to the high-quality development of the film industry.
