Reshaping Urban Fabric: An Aesthetic Dialogue Between Digital and Real

In collaboration with Professor Elke Reinhuber, we adopt the theme of "Urban Beautician" to transform micro-level urban restoration practices—such as wall paintings and other creative interventions—into interactive virtual narratives through volumetric video and AR technology. Using a multi-angle camera array, we capture the dynamic processes of artists repairing walls and cleaning streets, reconstructing them into lightweight volumetric video models. This allows audiences to immerse themselves via AR devices in previously overlooked urban corners, witnessing moments like felt flowers "growing" from cracks and gray walls transforming into vibrant graffiti.

Technology Empowering Art: Urban Scars and Healing in AR

The core exhibition scene uses AR overlays on physical space to present the philosophy of urban "repair." When viewers scan specific markers in the venue, they can observe virtual wall cracks being filled with felt flowers or watch graffiti pigments flow across digital surfaces on their smartphones or AR glasses. Through dynamic point cloud layering technology, the trajectories of artists' arm movements and the gradual shifts in material textures are precisely preserved, turning the technology itself into a medium for expressing the theme of restoration—where digital precision and real-world creative repair resonate in harmony.

From Tokyo to the Globe: Future Narratives of Urban Aesthetics

This participation aims to explore how digital technologies can reshape the social value of urban spaces. Volumetric video documents not only artistic acts but also the emotional memories of community interactions with urban surfaces. Though the AR-displayed "floral patches" are virtual, they reflect gentle, real-world interventions into urban scars. Through the platform of Tokyo Biennale 2025, we hope to ignite international dialogue on public art, technological ethics, and urban symbiosis, turning micro-level "repair" actions into a bridge for reviving urban aesthetics across diverse cultural contexts.
