About Us

Dynamic Reconstruction and Applied Meta Studio (DREAMS) is one of the central laboratories at HKUST (GZ). Our lab focuses on the R&D of 3D reconstruction technologies and their downstream applications, spaning two major fields of Extended Reality (XR) and robotics. It is committed to providing comprehensive and multi-scale 3D reconstruction capabilities for human, objects, and environments. The core R&D direction is high-precision 3D reconstruction, aiming to accurately replicate the real world into virtual environments, achieving synergistic coexistence among human, objects, and scenes. By leveraging AI, we are able to enhances the realism and vividness of virtual scenes. Moreover, the high-precision virtual worlds constructed are not only applicable for XR interactive experiences but can also provide rich data support for spatial intelligence and robot learning in the future, thereby facilitating the realization and advancement of embodied intelligence. To this end, the laboratory is equipped with a range of advanced devices, including a light field system, handheld object scanners, terrestrial LiDAR scanners, mocap suits, and supporting XR and robotics R&D platforms. These resources enable a complete closed loop including the entire pipeline from data acquisition to practical application.
